    Please join us for Rimfire Challenge. Starting in April, we will be shooting the second Saturday of each month.  Rimfire Challenge is speed shooting 5 to 7 steel targets using a .22 caliber pistol and rifle (must have both) with either iron sights or optics (Red dot) and have a minimum of 3 magazines for each gun, 5 mags is preferred.     Informal Rifle Practice and Marksmanship. Focus is on AR, Garand, M1a, and similar military rifles, but any rifle will work.

    We'll work toward shooting 10 shots prone, 10 shots prone rapid, and 10 shots standing. Butshooters can also use benches, rests, bipods, etc.

    This is a fun event for members and their invited guests.

    Rules: NRA Smallbore Rifle Rule Book   

    Eligibility: Open to all competitors (Rule 1.7c). Note - Those wishing to participate in this event with a rifle (e.g., semi-automatic rifle) or equipment (e.g., bench rest) which does not adhere to the rules as outlined may do so; however, participation will be "for fun" only and the scores will not be submitted to the NRA for classification.

    Entries: Entries are limited to 100 competitors which is the capacity of the range for the time allotted. All entries are requested in advance via online registration. If range space is available, entries will be accepted onsite. 

    Rifle: Any Rifle (Rule 3.2) with Metallic Sights (Rule 3.7a)

    40 shots at 50 yd (A-23)

    * Competitors will be responsible for hanging their own targets and supplying their own target clips.

    At-Large Team Match: A two-person team match will be held at the conclusion of the individual match. Team scores are calculated by adding the individual scores. The course of fire is the reverse Dewar.

    Time: 3-minute preparation period for the first stage and second stage of the Dewar Course. 1-minute preparation period for all other second stages. There will be 20-minutes for each 20-shot stage. There will be a 25 minute break in between matches.

    Sighting Shots: Competitors may fire unlimited sighting shots before and/or during record firing (Rule 9.2).

    Score Challenges: See Chapter 16 for procedure. 

    Ties: See Chapter 15 for procedure.

    Coaching: Coaching or assisting a competitor during an individual event is not permitted during the individual matches (Rule 9.10).

    Cost:      Adult $10.00 per individual.         Junior/Collegiate $5.00 per individual.

    SJVRP Outdoor Precision Pistol League 2026

    The Precision Pistol League is open to shooters of all levels, and is a great discipline for learning how to shoot safely and more accurately.  We will have experienced shooters as coaches/mentors to help new shooters learn to competently handle their firearms.  Most importantly, the goal is to be safe and have fun!

    The pistol league will again be sanctioned by the CMP, and will follow the current edition of the
    CMP Competition Rules.

    Dates: Tuesdays beginning April 21st, 2026 - September 15th, 2025 (No matches May 26th or Sept. 8th.)

    Start Time: 1st Round begins at 6:30pm

    League Fee:  $3 per gun at the match.  ($9 for all three.)

    SJVRP AirGun League 2026

    The AirGun League is open to shooters of all levels, and is a fun and relatively inexpensive way to practice your precision shooting skills.  All types of .177, .22, and .25 caliber air rifles and pistols are allowed, including PCP, CO2, Gas Piston, and Variable Pump.

    Course of Fire: Pistol:   10 shots at 10m on a B-40 target.
                                            3 sets of 2 targets each.
                                            Total of 60 shots on 6 targets per match.
                               Rifle:     20 shots at 10m on an AR 5/10 target.
                                            3 sets of 1 target each.
                                            Total of 60 shots on 3 targets per match.

    Dates: Fridays beginning April 24th, 2026 - September 18th, 2026 (No matches May 22nd, July 3rd, or September 4th

    Start Time: 1st Relay begins at 6:30pm

    League Fee: $5/match.

For those who have never shot steel challenge, it is a fast-paced event with 5 targets in each stage, shooting for your fastest time.     Classification: Each competitor will be placed in one class according to the NRA Classification System (Rule 19) and shall be prepared to exhibit a classification card or Temporary Score Record Book. Unclassified competitors will fire in the Master Class if they do not have an assigned classification.

    Awards: Provided by the St. Joseph Valley Rifle & Pistol Association. To be determined based on entries.

Shots whose values were decided with a scoring gauge or template cannot be challenged, unless there is a recording, tabulation, or other obvious error (Rule 8.2.2). A $3.00 challenge fee will be assessed for each challenge. The fee will be returned if the challenge is upheld.

    Squadding: Competitors will be assigned a definite relay and target by the Statistical Office. Failure to report on the proper relay or firing point forfeits the right to fire. All entries must be made before firing commences in the match.

    Challenges: Competitors may challenge the value of doubtful shot holes in accordance with procedures detailed in Section 16 of the NRA Rule Book. Challenge fee is $1.00 per match. All fired targets will be retained until the challenge period has ended, which is 30 minutes after the posting of the preliminary results.  

    Ties: Ties will be broken by the method prescribed in Section 15 of the NRA Smallbore Rifle Rule Book.

    Coaching: No coaching on the firing line is allowed (Rule 9.10 & 12.2).

    Targets: Competitors will be responsible for hanging their own targets and supplying their own target clips.

    Sighting Shots: Competitors may fire unlimited sighting shots before and/or during record firing (Rule 9.2).

    Preparation Time: There will be a 3-minute preparation period before the first stage and a 1-minute preparation period before the second stage (Rule 10.3.1). There will be a 20-minute change over period between positions.

    Individual Entry Fee: $40 both days, $25 one day. Exact change or a check made payable to the St. Joseph Valley Rifle & Pistol Association is required to satisfy payment.

    Team Entry Fee: In order to promote team entries, no fee will be collected. Teams will be comprised of two individuals who meet the requirements of Section 2 of the NRA Smallbore Rifle Rules.

    Categories: Open, Senior (Rule 2.2.1), Junior (2.3), Intermediate Junior (2.3.1), Sub-Junior (2.3.2), College (2.8).

    Classification: Each competitor will be placed in one class according to the NRA Classification System (Rule 19) and shall be prepared to exhibit a classification card or Temporary Score Record Book. Unclassified competitors will fire in the Master Class if they do not have an assigned classification.

    Awards: Provided by the St. Joseph Valley Rifle & Pistol Association. To be determined based on entries.

    Rules: 2025 CMP Smallbore Rifle Competition Rules        

    Eligibility: Open to all competitors (Rule 3.0). Note - Those wishing to participate in this event with a rifle (e.g., semi-automatic rifle) or equipment (e.g., bench rest) which does not adhere to the rules as outlined may do so; however, participation will be "for fun" only and the scores will not be submitted to the CMP for classification.

    Entries: Entries are limited to 100 competitors which is the capacity of the range for the time allotted. All entries are requested in advance via online registration. If range space is available, entries will be accepted onsite. 

    Rifle: Smallbore (Rule 5.1) with Optical Sights (Rule 5.2.2)

    F-Class Smallbore (Rule 5.3) with Optical Sights (Rule 5.2.2)

    Individual Course of Fire Smallbore:                                            

    40 shots at 50 yd (A-23)

    40 shots at 50 m (A-26)

    20 shots at 50 yd (A-23), 20 shots at 100 yd (A25)

    * Competitors will be responsible for hanging their own targets and supplying their own target clips.

    At-Large Team Match: A two-person team match will be held at the conclusion of the individual match. Team scores are calculated by adding the individual scores. The course of fire is the reverse Dewar.

    Time: 5-minute Pre-Preparation Time before first stages or a 2-minute Pre-Preparation Time before second stages. These are followed by 3-minute Preparation periods (Rule 6.4.3). There will be 20-minutes for each 20-shot stage.

    Sighting Shots: Competitors may fire unlimited sighting shots before and/or during record firing (Rule 6.4.3).

    Score Challenges: After scores are posted on the Official Bulletin Board, a 30-minute scoring challenge period will be provided when competitors and coaches have an opportunity to see their scored paper targets and protest any shot values, or scores, they believe were scored, recorded, or added incorrectly. The purpose of scoring challenges is to correct errors, not to rescore shots that have already been scored with an approved means of scoring (Rule 8.1.2). Shot value protests may only be made on shots whose values were decided without using a scoring gauge or scoring template (Rule 8.2.1). Shots whose values were decided with a scoring gauge or template cannot be challenged, unless there is a recording, tabulation, or other obvious error (Rule 8.2.2). A $3.00 challenge fee will be assessed for each challenge. The fee will be returned if the challenge is upheld.

    Ties: Ties are broken in favor of the competitor with the highest number of inner tens (Rule 8.5.1).

    Coaching: Coaching or assisting a competitor during an individual event is not permitted (Rule 6.5).

    Cost:      Adult $10.00 per individual.         Junior/Collegiate $5.00 per individual.

    Camping: The range has adequate space for camping, with electric hookup. There are washrooms with flush toilets and showers. Advance notice is required to camp at the range.
